T Shirt Talk

If you can read this you are too close!

If you can read this, the b*%$# fell off!

Remember the t-shirts with the finger pointing that said “I’m with Stupid”? As a kid I always wanted one of those but my Mom wouldn’t let me wear one. Instead I had a key chain that said “I’m bad with names can I call you Shithead?”. I loved that act of defiance! I think that I need that key chain more than ever today! I was thinking about the hate speech in this world and I am inclined to think that simple t-shirts and key chains would serve us all more effectively! If we wanted to say something we wouldn’t say it, we would use passive aggressive means to give someone the hint!! I had a Soul Train t shirt that clearly demonstrated my love of music and culture! I still love Soul Train! I had one that said “KISS” that was the acronym for “Keep it Simple Stupid”. That was about as snotty as it got!! I wore my Pink Panther shirt a lot, I didn’t have access to a black panther shirt or I would have worn that one too!

I wish we could go back to the way it was. Walter Cronkite signing off the 6 o’clock evening news saying, “And that’s the way it is” and we didn’t have the incessant news ticker on the bottom of the screen making sure that your anxiety level stays at HIGH ALERT every day! People knew about happenings around the world, but it wasn’t reported and reported and reported 24 hours a day. I used to fall asleep to the news on nights when I couldn’t sleep. I stopped that when I dreamed I was fighting against the Taliban and I couldn’t get out! I woke up exhausted! I miss the days where the news didn’t dictate how I felt about people or how I felt about the world. The days where the news didn’t polarize groups, blow up the story to get headlines, and Walter or Dan Rather were back in seat of “real news”. Our state of Nebraska is in dire straits and no one really has reported the truth. I don’t know how to heal this stuff, but I do know that I wish I had my old t shirts and I wish that they would fit!

Peace out my peeps,

e
